Visit Ta Prohm and Angkor Thom, more intimate in scale than Angkor Wat but no less spectacular. Both ancient sites are part of the larger Angkor archaeological complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meet your guide and drive to the temple of Ta Prohm. Founded as a Buddhist monastery during the late 12th and early 13th centuries, this photogenic site has been left largely untouched since its discovery. The jungle growth has overtaken much of the ruins, so you will see these staggering remains much as European explorers did when they first stumbled upon them. Admire how this imposing temple has merged with the surrounding growth without quite becoming part of it. Then continue to Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmer Empire. Set out and gaze at its ancient structures, such as the Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper Kings and the mysterious Bayon Temple.

Meet children and teachers at a local school supported by Viking and experience a heartfelt cultural exchange. Travel through the serene landscapes of Siem Reap Province to a rural school, where you will be warmly greeted at the gates by children singing in unison. Upon arrival, hear about the school’s story and Viking’s role in supporting English and computer education for students in the community. You will then be paired with one or more students, who will become your personal guides. Proudly demonstrating their English language skills, the children will share insights about themselves and their studies, creating genuine moments of connection. Before departing, you may choose to leave a personal contribution by donating school supplies or gently used books in good condition to the school library—small gestures that are warmly appreciated by students and staff alike.

Discover the breadth of Cambodian cuisine during a cooking class and demonstration. Meet your guide and transfer to a local market where you will be introduced to the wide array of Cambodian produce and colorful spices and herbs. Continue to the kitchen studio at Cambodia’s first farm-to-table restaurant where you will discover the art of preparing traditional Khmer dishes. Typically, a meal consists of more than one dish, expertly crafted to balance a range of contrasting flavors and textures. Learn about the use of local ingredients, including flavorsome herbs, leaves, pickled vegetables and accompanying dips. Under your careful instruction, you will create your own delectable dish. As you savor your meal, your teacher will share hints and tips that you can take with you, enabling you to put your newfound knowledge into practice at home.
